Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) provides a child with the opportunity to master age-appropriate developmental skills, sensory processing abilities, visual perception, self-care, social/emotional skills as well as supporting speech and language goals. Improvement in all of these areas promotes the child''s development of self-confidence, self-esteem and independence with day-to-day activities.

At the Columbus Speech & Hearing Center, Occupational Therapists work closely with Speech-Language Pathologists and/or Child Development Specialists, as needed. Occupational Therapy services may include comprehensive assessment and recommendations; ongoing individual therapy and/or co-treatment with speech therapy; consultation with a Speech-Language Pathologist and Child Development Specialist; home programs, early intervention assessment and recommendations and consultation with school systems.

Interactive Metronome

What is Interactive Metronome (IM)?

IM is a training program that utilizes rhythm and timing to improve an individual´s processing abilities affecting attention, motor planning, and sequencing. Motor planning and sequencing problems have been linked to a variety of developmental, behavioral, and learning challenges.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy and Sacred Spaces Body work are gentle, hands-on treatment approaches that assist the body in attaining its greatest state of health. Using gentle touch, the fluids and tissues of the body are palpated and restrictions are identified and released to allow greater freedom of movement with the body, making it easier for the child or adult to participate in daily activities and routines that are important to them. Some of the conditions or disorders that may be helped by this treatment approach include: motor in-coordination, sensory processing disorders, learning problems, developmental delay, speech and language delays, colic, feeding difficulties, central nervous system disorders, seizures, Autism, migraine headaches, chronic pain, emotional difficulties. Handwriting Program

Learning to write is a major milestone in a child’s development that can affect have a huge impact on performance and school. Our Occupational Therapists at CSHC are skilled at diagnosing and remediating handwriting difficulties, from working on pre-school writing readiness to cursive. Treatment is offered either in individual sessions or in a group format (since we’re offering a handwriting group this summer!)
